Onkod Radio – Officials from Somalia and Russia have held discussions on potential military and security cooperation between the two nations in Moscow, according to Media reports.
Russia’s Deputy Defence Minister Vasily Osmakov met with Somalia’s State Minister of Defence Omar Ali Abdi in Moscow. During the meeting, both sides reviewed major areas of bilateral defence collaboration and expressed readiness to enhance constructive engagement and expand military ties over time.
According to reports, the talks addressed military training initiatives, cooperation in combating terrorism, and technical partnerships in defence-related sectors. Images released by Russian media showed senior military representatives from both countries participating in formal meetings at a Russian Defence Ministry facility in Moscow.
According to African Initiative, earlier this month, Russian Ambassador to Somalia Mikhail Golovanov met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Mogadishu. During the discussions, the Somali president confirmed he will attend the third Russia–Africa Summit set to take place in October 2026.
